THE LUTZ FAMILY-2023

my Styling process

We all want to look beautiful in our family photo sessions. This is why styling your family is so important! If you feel comfortable and love what you are wearing you will feel more comfortable in front of the camera too. I offer a large variety of outfits in a client closet to help families look and feel their best.

start with mom

This mom and I went back and forth trying to find the perfect outfits for this session. We started out settling on what mom would wear. She chose this beautiful gown from my client closet. When I'm styling a family for a photo session I almost always start with moms. Moms are often the most difficult to please, and let's face it, if mom loves what she wears then she will love her photos. I do recommend that mom wears a maxi or midi flowy dress. These photograph beautifully and allow for flexibility in every position. Short fitted dresses aren't as flattering in photographs. If jeans aren't for you then we can coordinate an outfit that fits your personality.

DECIDE ON YOUR COLOR PALETTE

Once mom had her dress picked, I pulled colors together that would photograph well with the colors in her dress. I sent mom a few ideas and she told me what colors she thought would look good on her girls. We found a palette we both agreed on and we went to work looking for the best dresses for this particular palette. Remember it's important to coordinate but not match. Don't show up all in one color, that might make me lose my mind. hehe

next up- the kids!

I love to mix in patterns when I photograph. I typically try to add in at least one or two for every family. Mom's dress had a perfect floral detail on it. When I looked for options for the girls I looked for textures. I loved the lace and flow of these dresses. I thought they complimented mom's dress perfectly. For boys I try to add in a lot of layering with cool jackets/ vests/ hats, or button ups. If I have options that will work in my client closet I will offer these to you, otherwise I will search the internet for the best options for you! I really try to make this as stress free as possible.

DAD

I almost always style dads last. Once I have the rest of the family figured out I figure out what would fit good. For this dad I thought the dark green color complimented his family really well. Henleys, button ups, and 1/4 zip sweaters are all great options for dads, and are generally easy to find.

ACCESSORIES

After the families outfits are all set I sometimes will grab a few accessories from my client closet. I grabbed this hat for mom to wear, and a basket with some flowers for the girls. It doesn't have to be much. Sometimes adding in a statement bracelet or a fun shoe is all it takes. Speaking of shoes. Neutrals are really best, or even barefoot is an option!
